Some moments define a career.
Others define a life.
Winning the AI Film Award in Dubai, on the main stage of the world’s most visible AI film competition, marks one of those rare moments.
Zoubeir Jlassi, filmmaker from Tunisia, is the winner behind LILY.
After days filled with interviews and media requests, he stopped by the SHAIKE booth to share this moment with us.
This time, in his own words.
LILY and the Choice of Discipline
LILY explores what Zoubeir describes as “the secret life of everyday objects”, giving emotional presence to the inanimate world.
“I wanted to give a soul to everyday objects,” he explains.
“Visually, I chose a distinctive claymation style, aiming for a flawless, tactile look, free from common AI artifacts like eye or face distortions.”
Maintaining this consistency was not only a technical challenge, but a deliberate creative decision.
“I am also proud that LILY strictly respects every regulation of the contest,” Zoubeir adds.
“I wanted to prove that we can be incredibly creative while fully respecting a strict framework.”
From Top 5 to Winner

Before winning, reaching the Top 5 already felt unreal.
“As a Tunisian filmmaker, seeing my work recognised on such a prestigious global stage in Dubai is an immense honour,” he says.
“When I started working on the script and the first generations, I knew I had something special, but reaching the Top 5 was a validation I could only dream of.”
For Zoubeir, this recognition goes beyond a single film.
“It proves that with passion and the right tools, boundaries no longer exist for storytellers.”
A Clear Vision for 2026
When asked about the future of AI filmmaking, Zoubeir avoids hype.
He speaks about control, maturity, and direction.
“I believe 2026 will be the year of hybrid maturity,” he explains.
“We are moving past the initial hype of generation toward true, controlled direction.”
For him, AI will gradually disappear from the foreground.
“AI will stop being the subject and become an invisible, powerful tool for narrative,” he continues.
“We will see longer formats, perfect consistency, and a seamless blend where the director’s vision is paramount.”
What’s Next

Winning such a prestigious award naturally brings attention.
Offers are already coming from around the world, including feature film opportunities and major brand collaborations.
But for now, Zoubeir is choosing to slow down.
He plans to return home and rest, before deciding on his next step.
The Presidency of Tunisia has contacted him to welcome him upon his return.
A symbolic moment marking the beginning of a new chapter.
