Finalist (futureframes University of Maryland)
Ela, a 20-year-old ballet dancer, lives between two worlds the quiet, unglamorous reality of her personal life and the graceful, disciplined world of the stage. Offstage, she is just a young woman in a black hoodie, navigating cold mornings, unpaid bills, and restless nights. Onstage, she becomes the embodiment of elegance, her body telling stories she cannot speak aloud. Through a series of intimate moments a silent kitchen, a dim laundry room, tense hallway calls, and the solitary streets after rehearsal Ela’s voice guides us through her dual existence. Each scene blurs the boundaries between the mundane and the poetic, the personal and the performative. Her movements in daily life echo her dance, and her dance echoes her private pain. Between Steps is a deeply personal portrait of a young artist who cannot separate herself from her craft, even when the music stops. It is a quiet exploration of identity, sacrifice, and the fragile space between who we are onstage and who we are when the lights go out. .
