Spain is getting a new stage for AI-generated storytelling.
SHAIKE is proud to partner with AI Awards Barcelona, a new festival created by IEBS Business School to celebrate the creators redefining audiovisual production through generative AI.
From short films to AI-powered advertising, the festival aims to showcase projects where technology serves creativity and where storytelling remains at the center.
Three Categories. One Creative Vision.
AI Awards Barcelona welcomes creators working across three competition categories:
– Micro Short Film
– Short Film
– Spec Ads (AI-generated advertising concepts)
To participate, projects must demonstrate the use of generative AI in at least two stages of the creative process, such as writing, image or video generation, voice, or soundtrack. (Tech Barcelona)
The competition is open to filmmakers, digital artists, creative professionals, and emerging talent from around the world.
More Than an Awards Ceremony
Beyond the competition itself, AI Awards Barcelona brings together creators, educators, and industry professionals to explore the future of AI-powered audiovisual production.
Hosted in Barcelona by IEBS Business School, the event reflects the growing momentum of AI creativity across Europe and provides a platform for both established professionals and new voices.
A Festival Built Around Ideas, Not Just AI
For Luis Ángel Mendaña, Director of the AI Awards Barcelona, the festival was created with one clear objective: to celebrate creativity before technology.
“We don’t want to simply reward the best use of a tool or the most spectacular video. We want to recognize works that have a vision, an intention, and a story behind them.”
That philosophy is reflected throughout the festival. Rather than focusing only on technical achievement, AI Awards Barcelona brings together filmmakers, advertisers, brands, artists, and emerging creators to explore how generative AI is expanding audiovisual storytelling.
For Luis Ángel, AI is not replacing cinema, it is opening new creative possibilities.
“AI can help create images, scenes, or worlds, but the intention, the sensitivity, and the responsibility still lie in the hands of people.”
He sees AI as the next chapter in cinema’s evolution.
“I wouldn’t say that AI is reinventing cinema on its own. I would say that it is expanding its possibilities.”
