Animals blend in. They evolve to resemble whatever surrounds them. Tigers disappear into tall grass. The Arctic fox turns white in winter and brown again in summer. Stick insects look like twigs. The peppered moth turned black when industrial soot darkened the bark it rested on. Camouflage has always been a faithful copy of the environment.
The environment is plastic now. The fish in this film isn’t caught in a bag. It has become one — well enough to disappear among them. Nothing here is struggling. It forages. It startles. It retreats into cover. Ordinary animal behaviour, performed by something that shouldn’t exist. Not an obscene evolution. A faithful one.
