Welcome to ShaikeDown, where we take the latest AI tools for a crash test. Our community’s top Shaikers have put them through their paces, providing their expert insights and reviews. Here’s what they discovered about Midjourney’s video generator…
SHAIKERS Reviews:
LUDOVIC CARLI – “I am quite impressed by the generations”

So far even if the resolutions is only 480 p I am quite impressed by the generations . I am also impressed by the capability of the model to handle well so many different styles when other tools struggle with them. The extend feature is quite good aswell not degrading the style if the original image.
ROMAN LAPACZ – “Pretty impressed”

Pretty impressed. MidJourney still has that special artistic feel the others don’t, a kind of instinctive visual sensitivity, somewhere between painting and poetry. The animation isn’t quite at the level of Kling or Luma yet, but you can feel the spark. One or two update, and it could become a major player.
DASH DASH – “You get good prompt tracking and relatively fast generation.”

It’s not yet up to the level of a Kling 2 or a Veo 3, but you get good prompt tracking and relatively fast generation (for not too much money, the equivalent of an upscale at the moment), which is quite promising for future updates.
We’re also still waiting to include a last frame, or even intermediate keyframes (which none of the models do at the moment), but we’ve got a good challenger on the way!
DINDA PRESATYO – “I’m seriously Impressed. The motion is smooth, barely any distortions.”

It still has some struggles with full-body shots, especially when the face appears small in frame, there’s a bit of glitch or distortion. Fast Motion isn’t too fast either, probably to maintain subjects or objects consistency.
But overall, this is wild for a first version. Burned through a whole month’s quota just testing it… And no regrets.

NICOLAS FENSCH – “At GeniArt we are fans!”
Midjourney surprises with an impressive video model, well beyond what was announced, since we were not supposed to have an extend at the start nor to be able to animate images external to Midjourney.

The major highlights of this new model are:
–Rendering quality: it respects the styles and consistency of objects, characters, and scenes in general, including bold camera movements.
–The possibilities offered by “Low” and “High Motion” options allow for more or less dynamic renderings, as well as the choice of whether or not to prompt our animation. Even without prompting, the image analysis and resulting videos are often very relevant. It’s also possible to create shots up to 21 seconds long thanks to four 4-second extenders, with a very smooth transition between each one.
–The price! This model is currently among the best on the market, with a price that defies all competition. It costs barely the same as 8 generations of images for 4 videos, and there’s even a Relax mode for the highest subscriptions (Pro and Mega at $60 and $120 per month), which allows you to generate without spending any credit, meaning unlimited. The icing on the cake is that the price is expected to drop in the coming weeks.
-Speed: it only takes 1 to 2 minutes to generate 4 videos, another major advantage over the competition.
The only problem for now is the 480p video resolution, but midjourney is already on the case: instead of allowing generation in larger formats, they are preparing an upscaler that will allow them to control generation costs and keep the model accessible to all budgets.
In short, at GeniArt, we’re fans!

CONCLUSION: Still early to say but very encouraging
