Water scarcity has led indigenous plant species to develop mobility mechanisms in order to survive. These species, popularly known in Shelter as “land seafood”, are an essential source of protein for the most impoverished population and have an important cultural value in the community, which sees them as a metaphor for its own resilience. They are currently being developed commercially as a vegan alternative for mass consumption.
