Heavy Things is an AI-driven documentary based on a real story, a story a friend once told me about loss, absurdity, and the strange weight of ordinary things.
Inspired by that memory, I explored how ordinary things become extraordinary through surreal imagery.
With a custom ChatGPT, I shaped the story’s structure, tone, and shot design — establishing the film’s look and feel before building a custom Alpha Prompt GPT to refine visual detail and cinematic continuity. The style was born from testing Daisy where I discovered a painterly, surrealistic aesthetic I loved. I then explored and pushed the egg motif. Using real shots of London, I grounded the surreal imagery in locations that feel authentic while developing the Midjourney moodboard, storyboards, and character sheets to lock the style. Kling was essential in creating the energy of movement…the protagonist’s physical journey through the London underground in this absurd situation but also the feeling of movement of memory through time.
It took time to find her look — the fragile balance between human and uncanny — and to shape a voiceover that felt surreal, absurd, yet convincing. The hardest part was aligning these emotional layers across AI systems, but through that process I learned that, like an equation, memory + direction = meaning.
