GRANAT DALAM KALENG is a historical short film inspired by the courage and sacrifice of Emmy Saelan, a young female resistance fighter from Makassar who also served as a nurse during Indonesia’s struggle for independence.
Set across two timelines, 1947 and 1995, the film follows Emmy during the final hours of a dangerous confrontation in Kassi-Kassi, where she refuses to surrender and makes a final act of resistance. Decades later, her younger sister Elly Saelan watches that memory return to life on a cinema screen.
The film is a story about courage, sacrifice, memory, and the people who survive to carry the names of those who never came home.
