Inspired by Pieter Bruegel the Elder’s masterpiece The Suicide of Saul[i], the cinematic short film Edge reconstructs the tragic end of a defeated sovereign against the backdrop of an eternal, repeating war. High on a desolate rock, a broken, weary king watches his empire fall before taking his own life. Below him, history bleeds together in a chaotic spectacle. Parallel timelines collide as mixed armies of medieval knights, modern tactical infantry, and futuristic spider-robots slaughter one another, proving that human violence constantly reinvents its grim face but never changes its nature. Yet, in the wake of the fallen patriarch, a new paradigm of leadership emerges from the displaced masses. A lone woman, riding from a retreating refugee convoy, senses the shift and ascends the mountain. Reaching the dead king, she reclaims his mythic sword from the rock, not to rule, but to hurl it into the abyss. This ultimate renunciation of power becomes her final, defiant stance against a cold, hovering drone—the ultimate symbol of automated, endless war.
