A day later, with her arm in a sling and her lawyer at her side, she walks into a vast white reconstruction hall, where her accident is rebuilt from camera footage, phones and data. All the operator needs is her consent. It’s standard. But when she touches her own frozen copy, she finds herself somewhere else: a closed New York bar where the clock has said 7:04 for decades, and three men are reading her from a file like a menu.
